Somalia | Nation set to endure food crisis

Approximately 6.6 million people across Somalia are projected to experience high levels of acute food insecurity from now through to June 2023, particularly for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) within Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Burhakaba.

Mogadishu is home to nearly 400,000 IDPs, which is over one third of all IDPs in Somalia.

Several contributing factors to this famine include regional conflict and insecurity continuing to create IDPs, food prices remaining above the five-year average, and the impact of a prolonged drought causing consecutive failed harvests.
